SPAIN

Our Homebase: Madrid

Northern Spain: Madrid and Andalucia

This is where GOGI Abroad started! The name GOGI Abroad (Go Outward, Grow Inward) comes from the Director, Liz Jackson’s own study abroad experience.

GOGI Arroyo, a woman from Madrid, took Liz under her wing on her first trip to Spain as a teenager, a trip that changed her life, inspiring her to become a lifelong student of the world, its people and their cultures.

GOGI embodies all of the experience a study abroad student could ask for and more. GOGI is an elder, a sage. She is a teacher, a friend and most importantly, she is family. She lives the culture and has inspired how GOGI Abroad sculpts programs to give the students the same opportunity to cultivate rich and unforgettable life experiences.

Students will learn about Madrid, tour the vibrant and cultural city and live with a homestay.

Northern Spain: Beyond the Homebase

Surfing & Camping en El Palmar

You will travel down the coast after your week in Cadiz, to the unspoiled countryside. There are sand dunes, pine groves and crystal clear waters. This is the ideal place for surfing and taking part in a service learning project. You will stay in Bungalows on the beach and learn how to work together cooking, living and being in a Spanish community. There are endless beaches of fine white sand and in the afternoons it is common to see a local riding on his Andalusian horse on the beach.

Beach Excursions

Cadiz is full of sandy beaches and beautiful spots not to be missed. You will spend many afternoons exploring the city beaches as well as a day at Bolonia. We will visit the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia. The beaches of Andalucia are filled with brilliant mixes of local color.

Our Homebase: Cadiz

Southern Spain: Madrid and Andalucia

Immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture in Cadiz, the oldest city in Europe. Explore the cobblestone streets, friendly faces, and vibrant culture of Cadiz.  Cadiz is a manageable size, with a unique combination of an open port city and one of the oldest civilizations in Europe. There is a thriving Spanish culture here, with many students, but few American tourists. This birthplace of Flamenco has some of the cleanest beaches in Spain! Cadiz is a hidden jewel.

GOGI has deep connections in Madrid and north in Jaca and Huesca for 20 years. During our ten years leading trips to Cadiz, we have developed an affiliation with K2 Internacional School and the two amazing sisters who founded it.  Our homestay families have grown with us throughout the years and it always feels like the GOGI tribe is returning home when we arrive with a group in Spain!
